Singapore Grand Prix: Leclerc claims pole position

Leclerc edges out Sainz in thrilling qualifying session

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc claimed pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix after a gripping qualifying session at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Leclerc, who won the last race in Monza, produced a stunning lap to finish 0.054 seconds clear of his teammate Carlos Sainz. It is the Monegasque's eighth pole position of the season.

Sainz, who won the Singapore Grand Prix in 2019, was also in impressive form and will start alongside Leclerc on the front row.

Red Bull's Sergio Perez will start third, ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.

It was a disappointing qualifying session for Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who could only manage eighth place. The Dutchman is now 16 points behind Leclerc in the championship standings with just three races remaining.
